A First Outing for Your Urban Nest at the WI Christmas Fair
What a weekend! We’re still glowing with excitement after our very first public outing as Urban Nest, and we couldn’t have chosen a more welcoming place than the Women’s Institute Christmas Fair. Packed with festive sparkle, cheerful chatter, and the comforting scent of homemade cakes drifting through the hall, it was the perfect setting for our debut.
Setting up our stall that morning felt a little like decorating our own tiny shop. We carefully arranged our handmade cushion covers – bright, cosy, and full of personality – then lined up our quirky doggy shoulder bags, which instantly brought a smile to anyone who spotted them. Finally, we added a touch of seasonal charm with our Christmas coasters, plus a handful of other Christmassy bits. When we stepped back to look at it all, we felt both proud and a teeny bit nervous. Would people like what we had?
As soon as the doors opened, any lingering nerves melted away. Visitors wandered over with warm smiles and kind words, and it wasn’t long before our first sale had us quietly celebrating behind the table. The cushion covers drew plenty of compliments, with people telling us how they planned to brighten up their homes for winter. The doggy shoulder bags were a huge hit too – fun, practical, and completely irresistible to dog lovers. Watching people inspect them, laugh, and then decide they needed one was such a joy. We knew they were fun, but we didn’t expect quite so many people to fall in love with them!
Our Christmas coasters added to the festive spirit, and many shoppers picked up sets as stocking fillers or little thank-you gifts. One visitor told us she was hosting a big family dinner and wanted something unique to make the table feel extra special – exactly the sort of moment we love creating for people.
More than the sales, though, what made the day so special was the sense of community. Fellow stallholders shared advice, the WI volunteers kept the atmosphere wonderfully warm, and visitors took the time to chat about craft, gifting, pets, and everything in between. For a first outing, we couldn’t have asked for more.
We packed up at the end of the day, tired but completely thrilled – and full of ideas for what we want to do next.
Thank you to everyone who stopped by and helped make Urban Nest’s debut so memorable. Here’s to many more fairs, friendly faces, and unique treasures ahead!
